Super League MD4: Last-minute drama for Futsal Escocia and big win for Aberdeen

George Cran

Joga Futsal (yellow) hosted Futsal Escocia on Sunday.

A Super Sunday of futsal action in the North East and central belt saw Aberdeen and Futsal Escocia move onto nine points at the top of the Super League table.

Those two were victorious – Aberdeen dominating visitors Edinburgh University and Escocia edging Joga in a seven-goal thriller in East Kilbride.

There were also three points for Galacticos after TJ Slovak Lads forfeited on Friday night. That saw TJ Slovak Lads deducted three points for their second forfeit of the season.

The meeting of two newly-promoted sides brought a one-sided contest at Robert Gordon University.

It did take seven minutes for the SFL-Aberdeen champions to break the deadlock with skipper Grant Campbell opening the scoring.

Chris Angus and Callum Dunbar put them in control before Michael Watt added a fourth before half-time.

After the break, the game was swiftly taken away from the students with Dunbar, Campbell, Arran Christie and Angus all finding the net within the first three minutes of the second half.

The scoreline was 11-0 before Jonathan Chaplin got the Edinburgh side on the scoresheet with Aberdeen eventually securing a 13-2 victory and a third win from three this season.

The clash at the Alastair McCoist Complex was a far tighter affair with another two new sides battling out a cracking contest in East Kilbride.

Neither team was giving much away with chances at a premium early on.

Joga's Lewis Mackie goes for goal.

The visitors Escocia edged things in the opening half but it was Joga who opened the scoring with a finely-crafted opening goal.

A one-two gave Cooper Knox an open goal to make it 1-0 on 10 minutes.

That lead would last four minutes before a flurry of chances eventually saw Liam Kelly fire high into the Joga net.

The second period saw hosts Joga edge the balance of play. But once more the first goal came at the other end.

Caleb Holness has been among the goals already this season and he grabbed another, squeezing a low effort beyond goalkeeper Neil Stafford.

Joga keeper Neil Stafford keeps Escocia out.

But Joga were back level four minutes later with Aaron Quinn making it 2-2.

The second half ebbed and flowed but it was Escocia who kept nosing in front.

Aidan Mackenzie made it 3-2 before Joga once more levelled matters thanks to a Jacob Donelly finish.

However, there was still time for a last-minute winner with Holness the man giving Escocia all three points in dramatic fashion.
